Big picture thinking.
Working on site in one litigation, Alison realized that a particular lab notebook would inevitably be a key piece of evidence at trial. She also recognized that the existing translation, drafted by an outside translator in the early days of the litigation, wasn’t adequate for use in court. She alerted the law firm, which asked for a review of the translation based on our accumulated knowledge of the case. Out of hundreds of pages of translations prepared over the course of two years, that notebook was one of two documents used in court during the trial. Because the law firm had made us part of their litigation team, we were able to anticipate this development. And thanks to the attorneys’ trust in our judgment, we were able to do the painstaking review work carefully over the course of ten days rather than in a panic on the eve of trial.
Flexible, tailored solutions.
Sometimes translation is only one part of meeting a client’s needs. In one instance, Alison organized a select team of translators to help a small law firm monitor fast-breaking foreign news stories that could affect their client’s business operations abroad. Our team’s knowledge of key players and issues in the political and economic realm enabled us to sift quickly and efficiently through vast amounts of information and to produce timely, idiomatic translations that kept our client on top of the news in real time.
In another case, we helped a client settle a complicated property matter in a foreign country. In addition to translating documents related to the ownership of the property, we worked through an attorney/translator on our own team to locate a reliable foreign attorney for the client, and then handled foreign-language communication with him on her behalf. We also researched and outlined the bureaucratic steps involved in dealing with property matters in the foreign county and assisted her in preparing a trip to meet with her attorney there. Our comprehensive approach, which went far beyond translating documents, helped the client bring her matter to a successful conclusion.
